(Maria Scalera Stellini)In this lecture, composer Suzanne Farrin will present ideas about her writing process by examining translation, language, and experience. She will outline how specifically the poetry of Michelangelo outlines his philosophy on art, and how his process of subtraction led to the creation of her musical language. She will show how something as simple as syntax heard through the lens of time can be a guide for understanding subtext, and how, in her world, meaningless words are filled with meaning.
